The Grillmeister Retires
On April 23, 2022, the German Studies Program at W&M held its traditional Frühlingsfest, or Spring BBQ. However, one thing was not traditional at all this time: We said Auf Wiedersehen! to student favorite and long-time Grillmeister Professor Rob Leventhal, who retired this spring. Not only a beloved professor and respected scholar, Prof. Leventhal excelled at grilling Bratwurst and cheese burgers to perfection, all while chatting with students, advertising new classes, talking about study abroad and dispensing general life advice.
This year, students from the Deutsches Haus and from Prof. Leventhal's classes had crafted a gigantic card for him which they presented at the Fest. Many students had prepared small speeches of classroom memories and of thank yous, and the atmosphere was quite elegiac. We will miss our Grillmeister!
