Falling Through the Social Safety Net: Professor Howard discusses his new book with the “No Jargon” podcast.

This past September, Professor Chris Howard was interviewed by the “No Jargon” podcast (run by the Scholars Strategy Network) about his upcoming book, Who Cares: The Social Safety Net in America. Howard discussed what and who is included in the “social safety net” and what role government and private charities play in addressing the needs of those in the net. He mentioned ways to help mend the safety net such as increasing the number of rental vouchers, offering renters tax credits, and restoring the Child Tax Credit. He also explained that “there are not enough angels” to deal with material hardship and that some government coercion, such as progressive income taxes, is needed to force the rich to care of the poor.
