The 19th Annual Graduate Research Symposium — a two-day, broadly themed academic conference designed to bring together graduate students in differing areas of study in the arts and sciences — will be held in the Sadler Center at William & Mary on March 20-21.
Graduate students from William & Mary and visiting peer institutions — such as Brandeis University, Dartmouth College, Vanderbilt University and Wake Forest University — will give presentations on their current research in fields ranging from American studies to physics.
The theme this year, “We Have Vision,” builds upon William & Mary's vision, mission and values statements, that were recently finalized as part of the university's strategic planning process.
The symposium is hosted by the W&M Arts & Sciences Office of Graduate Studies and Research. It is free and open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public.
This year's highlights include:
- 130 graduate student lectures and poster presentations
- 35 presenters from 18 visiting institutions
- Over $8,000 given in Awards for Excellence in Scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences and in the Natural and Computational Sciences plus $1,000 given in Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring
- W&M graduate student presentations from each Arts & Sciences graduate departments/programs
