William & Mary Libraries welcomes Morgan Davis as our new music & arts librarian

William & Mary Libraries welcomes Morgan Davis as our new music & arts librarian.davis.png

Davis earned her Master of Library Science from University of North Texas with a specialization in music librarianship. She comes to us from Towson University in Maryland, where she was the Resident Librarian for Diversity and Innovation.  In that role, she forged strong connections with the fine arts faculty. She advocated for and created pathways in which the performances and scholarship of those departments could be captured in the university’s institutional repository.

“As someone with an interdisciplinary background, I think that my time as both a student of philosophy and music has made me keenly interested in helping students learn to connect their experiences and interactions with music and the arts to the academic pursuits afforded to them by the college experience,” said Davis. “I’m also what I like to call an ‘equal opportunity listener.’  I listen to all kinds of music, from Mahler to Moonchild. I’ve found that by exploring different kinds of music, I’ve gotten to meet all different kinds of people from all areas of the arts and beyond. I’ve grown tremendously because of my intentional relationship with music and I couldn’t be more grateful. For me, music really has been the bridge to all things and I really enjoy helping people learn to build those same kinds of bridges for themselves.”

As the music and arts librarian, Davis will oversee the music library in Ewell Hall and help plan for the new library in the New Arts Building.  She will serve as liaison to Music, Art and Art History, and Theatre, Speech and Dance.

“Morgan’s knowledge and passion for music and the arts will greatly benefit our students and faculty,” said Candice Benjes-Small, head of research services. “We look forward to teaching and collaborating with her within the libraries and across campus.”

Outside of work, Morgan enjoys yoga, experimenting in the kitchen, enjoying a good Netflix binge, playing the clarinet, and learning to play the bass.
