The Neuroscience Program held the annual reception for its graduates on Saturday, May 16, 2015. Neuroscience faculty honored the 75 graduates and their guests. Each graduate was recognized and received a lapel pin to wear at their diploma ceremony according to the Program's tradition.
The Program’s Director, Professor Josh Burk, announced that over 50% of Neuroscience majors will Medical School in fall or planned to attend Medical School in the near future. The graduates will be attending Medical programs such as the Ohio State University and the University of Maryland, University of Virginia School of Medicine, and Eastern Virginia Medical School. An additional 20% of majors plan to attend Ph.D. programs at schools like Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania and Vanderbilt University. Many more of the Neuroscience graduates plan to pursue other programs and degrees, including Dental School, Veterinary School, Public Health and Nursing. Clearly, the class of 2015 has much to be proud of.
The Excellence in Neuroscience Award was also presented at the reception to Monika Stanciauskus, and Jacob Daniels. Professor Margaret Saha in the Department of Biology was the research advisor for Ms. Stanciauskus. Professor Pam Hunt in the Psychology Department, and Professor Lisa Landino of the Chemistry Department jointly advised Mr. Daniels. The award recognizes the achievements of exceptional students engaged in Neuroscience education through research, mentoring, or other activities, while maintaining an excellent academic record. The recipients must also exhibit enthusiasm, dedication, independence, and leadership indicative of a ambassador for both scholarship and the field of Neuroscience. The ceremony concluded with Professor Burk conveying congratulations and asking the graduates to keep in touch with the Neuroscience faculty.
