Across the fifty U.S. states, systems of education governance vary. Some states empower governors to make appointments to key education posts. Others vary in the number of school districts they maintain or in the amount of funds they provide for their schools relative to local sources. What is the relationship between these governance choices and student outcomes? Professor Paul Manna has addressed that question in a recent study he published in Policy Studies Journal.
