Tribe gymnasts finish third in national academic rankings

Four William & Mary gymnasts have received first-team Academic All-American Scholar-Athlete designation by the College Gymnastics Association for the 2011 season: Matt Holmes ’11 (computer science and public policy) and Dave Ellis ’11 (process management and consulting), Steve Deutsch ’12 (finance and psychology), and Daniel Potemski ’14 (undeclared).

The academic designation of Holmes was a significant milestone as he has now received first-team Academic All-American honors for a fourth straight year.

Second-team Academic All-American Scholar-Athlete designations were awarded to Kyle Sneeden ’11 (computer science and economics), Matt Burns ’13 (psychology and business) and Kris Yeager ’13 (American studies) as well as to Landon Funiciello ’14 (pre-med) who earned additional All-American honors by placing sixth in the 2011 NCAA Championships on the rings.

As a team, William & Mary continues to lead the nation with more individual Academic All-American honors than any other university in men’s gymnastics. An overall team grade-point average of 3.309 placed the College third in the 2011 national academic standings.

In addition, Tribe gymnasts finished the season ranked 13th in the final NCAA rankings for men’s gymnastics.
