Students Place First On-site in ACM Regional Programming Contest

W&M participants in the ACM Regional Programming ContestOn November 6, 2010, the Computer Science Department sent three teams of undergraduate students to CNU to participate in the 2010 ACM Mid-Atlantic Regional Programming contest. This contest is held every year to select teams that will compete in the International Programming Contest, which this year will be held in Egypt.

The participants included Chase Albert, Michael Christensen, and Brett Cooley for team 1; Stephen Howe, Kevin Howell, and Alex Valentin for team 2; and Sarah Cameron, Kevin Cox, and Joel Gillespie for team 3.

Our teams performed exceedingly well. Team 1 earned the title of First Team on-site, solving 3 of the 8 problems posed in the 5 hours of the contest. They also placed 12th overall in the regional standings out of approximately 160 teams. For their efforts, team 1 received a plaque which can be seen on the ACM bulletin board in the Computer Science Department. Team 2 was second on site (38th overall) and team 3 was 4th on site (48th overall).
