Submitting Recordings with Your Application to W&M

Prospective students interested in the W&M music program are encouraged to send a recording of their solo playing with their application. W&M GamelanThe Common Application Arts Supplement form is available online,

As a liberal arts institution, William & Mary does not require auditions for acceptance into the school or into the music major. Music majors, like all others, are declared by the student at the end of the sophomore year.

The W&M music faculty submits a list of the strongest music applicants (based on tapes or cds submitted) to the Office of Admissions, and thus a strong performance submission can influence a student's admission. However, all students must meet the academic admissions criteria of the College.

Recordings should be submitted only if the student plans to take music courses, participate in Department of Music ensembles, or would consider a major or minor in music. CD or cassette format is acceptable; please do not send videos or DVDs. The recording should be of the highest quality possible, and should feature solo or accompanied solo literature. Small ensemble performances (duets, trios, combos) that feature the student may be included as supplemental material.

In addition, if students are proficient in more than one area (e.g., trombone and piano) they are encouraged to include examples of both.
