Studying French at William and Mary was an essential part of my undergraduate education and continues to have an impact on my life. Taking classes in the French Department and studying abroad in France allowed me to develop an appreciation for language, culture, and national identity different from what I have grown up with in the United States. This appreciation fostered a sense of belonging to a global community that I have carried with me to my graduate studies in law. My French minor serves as a constant reminder that the United States is merely one member of an international network of legal systems, each characterized by different but equally important values, purposes, and modes of operation.
