Dongyue Shen (申东月) is a visiting professor from Beijing Normal University (BNU) in Beijing, China. She teaches Chinese language courses in the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at William & Mary. Dr. Shen received her BS in Bioengineering at Tianjin University of Commerce in 1993 and her MA in Chinese language and literature in 2001. She also has a Ph.D. in comparative linguistics from Peking University.
Dr. Shen has been teaching Chinese as a foreign language to international students since 2004 both in China and in other countries such as Japan and Korea. As an advisor to Master's degree students, she has taught graduate courses in linguistics and applied linguistics at BNU. Her main research fields are phonetics and comparative linguistics, in which she has published more than 20 papers and a number of textbooks. Dr. Shen has also played an important role in training Chinese language teachers in several countries, such as the Philippines, Japan, Korea, etc.
