Monica Streifer earned her Ph.D. in Italian from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2016. She completed her undergraduate work in European Studies at Scripps College in Claremont, California. Before joining the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at William & Mary, Monica taught at the University of California, Riverside and at UCLA.
Monica’s research interests include modern and contemporary Italian literature and theater; film and performance studies; and gender studies. Her scholarship also encompasses Renaissance and Baroque drama and Jewish identity and culture in Italy. She has published articles on the plays of Dacia Maraini and Anna Banti in California Italian Studies, and is currently working on a book that tracks theater and performance as forms of feminist political engagement in twentieth-century Italy.
Monica enjoys teaching courses on Italian literature, language, cinema, and cultural studies at all levels.
