Boren Awards for International Studies

Boren Awards provide funding opportunities for US undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to US interests, including Chinese.

Boren Scholarships can provide undergraduate students with up to $20,000. In the past many W&M students received this scholarship and studied in China.


Chinese Government Scholarship

Scholarship provided by China Scholarship Council. In the past W&M students have been consistently receiving this scholarship to study in China. Starting 2016, three W&M students each year will be selected for this scholarship. 


Critical Language Scholarship Program

The CLS Program offers scholarships for studying in intensive summer language programs in thirteen critical foreign languages, including Chinese. In the past many W&M students received this scholarship and studied in China


Huayu Enrichment Scholarship

Scholarships provided by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education to foreign students of age 18 or older to study Mandarin in Taiwan for 2, 3, 6, 9, or 12 months.


Fulbright Scholarship

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. Graduating students only.
