Mona El Sherif, Visiting Assistant Professor of Arabic Studies, received her Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from the University of California, Berkely. Before coming to William & Mary she taught at The Colorado College, University of Miami, University of California, Berkeley, and was a Visiting Researcher at the University of Oslo, Norway.

Professor El Sherif’s research focuses on Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL), Modern Arabic Literature and Culture, Cinema and Visual Culture in the Arab World, Islam and Urban Modernity, Gender and Sexuality in the Arab World, Technology, Media, and Cultural Change in the Arab World. She enjoys teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language, Arab and Middle Eastern Cinemas, Arab Cities in Literature and Film. Professor El Sherif will be teaching Elementary Arabic, Intermediate Arabic and Films in/on/of the Middle East.
