William & Mary has a long, proud tradition of training future military and civilian leaders
We are home to the Queen’s Guard and Pershing Rifles, and participate in the annual Ranger Challenge
Scholarships are available to cover full tuition and fees, along with a monthly stipend and book allowance
Our history is reflected in the name of our ROTC unit, “The Revolutionary Guard Battalion”
For service during the Peninsula Campaign, we fly a Revolutionary War Battle Streamer for the 1777 Siege of Yorktown
Our Military Science students train and prepare to serve as the nation's future military officers, ready to lead soldiers across a broad spectrum of missions and operations. We are home to the W&M United States Army’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program. On completion of this program, cadets are commissioned in the U.S. Army as second lieutenants and serve in active, reserve, or National Guard assignments.
Courses
Our leadership courses carry credits that can be applied toward a W&M undergraduate degree — with or without a commitment to future military service. We assign mentors to cadets, who assist in navigating the rigors of our training program and academic life.

Student Activities
We participate in the annual Ranger Challenge, an intense, day-long regional competition. This event tests a variety of Army skills, from communications to first-aid procedures, and includes an obstacle course and 10-kilometer road march. Our team regularly places well among the top finishers.
Careers
William & Mary has a long leadership tradition in military, politics, and business. Many graduates have attained the highest military ranks. These include President George Washington, General Winfield Scott (the longest serving general in U.S. military history), and Robert Gates, the former Secretary of Defense. Others graduates include LTG Keith W. Dayton ’70, GEN David McKiernan '72, and LTG N. Ross Thompson III ’74.
