Our location in the "historic triangle" of Yorktown, Jamestown, and Williamsburg affords outstanding access to resources focused on early American and 19th Century US history.
Our History students study to better understand the human experience across the globe and over time, preparing for informed citizenship in our complex and interdependent world cultures.
Alongside their academic work, our graduate students gain practical experience through writing and teaching apprenticeships, and internships in research institutes, libraries, and museums.

Research
All history majors learn and practice the tools of historical research. The James Blair Historical Review is an undergraduate journal dedicated to the publication of undergraduate student research.
Student Activities
W&M has an active chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the international history honor society. The group sponsors lectures, field trips, receptions, and other activities in which students interact with other majors, with faculty, and with distinguished visitors.
Careers
Our students have found rewarding careers in law, education, business, museums, historic sites, nonprofit institutions, government, and foreign service. Our majors gain entry to some of the nation's top graduate programs in history.
