Poster Session Guidelines
Undergraduate Honors Poster Presenters:
- Those presenting a digital poster (ePoster) should read about digital poster guidelines here. The ePoster sessions will take place in two afternoon sessions on Friday, March 22. Use the Online Program to find which session you're in.
- If you're presenting a traditional poster you must plan to create either a 3' x 4' trifold poster or a 3' x 4' flat research poster. Free trifold project boards are available to presenters at no cost from the Charles Center; visit Blow 268 to pick one up. Students are responsible for printing costs for flat posters.
- All poster presenters: please check in at the registration desk prior to you poster session to ensure you get set up properly. We'll be there to help.

Where can I print my poster?
Check with your academic department and colleagues about where they print posters. The Print Shop at William & Mary can accommodate posters that are no larger than 36" x 48". They require you submit the posters in advance, so don't wait until the last minute. Email the [[printshop,Print Shop]] with questions and for pricing. All poster presenters are responsible for the cost of printing their own poster.
When will I hang my poster?
Graduate & Honors Research Symposium (GHRS) volunteers will assist in hanging the posters. We ask that presenters bring their posters to the Registration Table between 2:15-3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22. The posters may remain on display until the end of the reception when you will remove your poster (no later than 5:30 p.m.). Posters that are not removed will be discarded.
When will I give my poster presentation?
The poster sessions will take place in the Chesapeake Rooms of the Sadler Center. Please plan to stand near your poster for 1.5 hours and explain your research to attendees of the GHRS.
What are the size limitations for my poster?
A space size of 4 feet by 4 feet will be available for you to present your poster. The poster will hang on display boards using special clips that will not damage the poster (we will provide these). We will NOT allow individual 8.5 inch by 11 inch sheets of paper to be presented. Posters larger than 4' by 4' (48 in. x 48 in.) cannot be displayed.
How large should the text for the poster be?
The poster should be easily readable from a distance of 6 feet. Common recommendations suggest font sizes of 85 pt for titles, 36 pt for headings, and no less than 24 pt for text; captions can be 16-18 pt font.

Meet with your advisor or colleagues to discuss your poster design. A second opinion always helps.

Graduate Poster Awards
Poster presentations at the GHRS are eligible for the "People's Choice" poster award ($100). Attendees at the poster session are given ballots to select the best poster presentation based on the following criteria:
- The presenter summarized the study clearly and answered questions well;
- The project objectives were clearly outlined and the research questions and hypothesis were clearly stated;
- The overall aesthetic and organization of the poster were effective.
