Write-Ins

What's a "Write-in"?

Write-ins are mini writing retreats hosted by GWRC on Saturday mornings, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In-person Write-ins are held in the Graduate Student Commons (2nd floor, Swem). Some Saturday Write-ins are held virtually via Zoom. You’re welcome to come once, or come every week! We provide a friendly and supportive, yet quiet atmosphere. Bring your own coffee/tea and a can-do attitude!

If you're trying to make progress on an article, dissertation, or other big project, but would benefit from some quiet camaraderie, and a structured time to focus on your writing, we welcome you to join us for this weekly writing retreat. Our goal is to provide a time and space for graduate students to set writing goals and work without interruption in a supportive environment. A GWRC consultant will facilitate the session and be available for mini writing consultations to answer specific questions or review select segments of text.

How to prepare for a Write-In:
  • Wear comfortable clothes and bring your own coffee, tea, or water.
  • Bring all the materials you will need so you can work uninterrupted on a portion of your writing project, including books, notes, and your laptop.
  • Plan ahead. Set a reasonable goal: what exactly do you want to accomplish during each three-hour Write-In?
