The information below is specific to the graduate program in Physics.

Deadline

For Fall admission: January 15
Spring Admission: Contact us
Part-Time Students: No

Applications submitted after the program's deadline may be evaluated at the discretion of the program's admission committee.

Official Documents vs Student copies

At the time of submission, the student copies of transcripts and examination scores (TOEFL or GRE) are sufficient for consideration.
If you are selected, we will require the official version of the documents before issuing the final offer.

GRE Scores

The Physics Department at William & Mary has made the submission of scores for the general GRE and the GRE physics subject tests optional as additional information to support your application for admission in fall 2023.

Not submitting GRE scores will not negatively impact your application.

GRE code for Physics: 0808

Advice and Considerations

Assistantships, fellowships and scholarships are awarded on the basis of the application materials. The Graduate Admissions Committee, comprised of physics faculty, recommends admission and financial aid. Typically, only students interested in pursuing the Ph.D. will be considered for aid.

There are usually about 70 resident students in the program, all of whom currently receive full financial support. Full support includes tuition and other fees, student health insurance, and a twelve-month stipend. Starting from 2022, the stipend is $29,000 per year. See more at Physics Financial Support

Approximately 10 full-time students are admitted each fall. This number is determined primarily by departmental resources and funds available from state and federal agencies. Adequate resources have enabled us to offer full financial support to all students making satisfactory progress toward their degrees.
