Waggoner Asks: Do Constituents Influence Legislators?

Phil Waggoner, one of Government's new visiting assistant professors for 2018-19, recently published an article on the potential for constituents to influence the priorities of the legislators who represent them. Professor Waggoner''s article appeared in the peer-reviewed journal American Politics Research, and found that legislators seem to develop their priorities based more on the industrial profile of the districts they represent, rather than their gauge of constituents' opinions. Professor Waggoner also has penned a shortened version of the article, which appeared recently on the US Politics and Policy Blog at the London School of Economics. Have a look here
