Sean Burns received his PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University in 2013. He is originally from Los Angeles and got his BA in Political Science and History from the University of California at Berkeley. He primarily teaches on comparative politics, Middle East politics, and democratization, but his interests also include revolutions, energy politics, Latin American politics, and international relations. He taught for five years at Northwestern University in Qatar, on the Persian Gulf, and has travelled widely in the Middle East. His first book, Revolts and the Military in the Arab Spring: Popular Uprisings and the Politics of Repressions, will be published by IB Tauris in late 2017.
