Year Started at W&M: 2006
Background: I came to the College from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where I served as Media Services Librarian and helped initiate a media production services unit in the library. I’m here now to direct, and help evolve a media services unit in Swem Library devoted to providing a range of services related to media production, creativity, teaching and learning around new media. I have a BA in Linguistics and MLIS from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro... so I’m about phenomenological totality.
What I do: As Director of the Reeder Media Center in Swem Library, I seek to cultivate a space, a place, and a destination for exploring ways to connect new media to teaching and learning. We seek to connect students, faculty and staff in this endeavor. But, it is not about me. At Swem Library, I work with a talented and devoted team, creative student employees, engaged librarian colleagues, and an inspired leadership to help us all explore the ways in which the liberal arts experience can be enhanced and improved via new media. We have capabilities you’ll find nowhere else on campus, and we are able to help you invent things not yet imagined. We have lots of stuff, and lots of soul too. Make an appointment, come by and see us! We’ll even make you an espresso.
Recent Publication: Davis, T & Stock, A. (2015). Going Radical with a Librarian-Faculty Partnership to Transform Learning in the 21st Century. In Eden, Bradford. (Ed.). Partnerships and New Roles in the 21st-Century Academic Library: Collaborating, Embedding, and Cross-Training for the Future. (77-96). Lanham, Maryland: Rowman & Littlefield.
Personal Interests: I, at times, fancy myself a poet, but am also a father who crashes mountain bikes and sometimes violins. I am fascinated by the creative process and committed to articulating and expanding the role W&M Libraries play in the teaching and learning community at W&M. I have also been observed enjoying an occasional cigar...the Cohiba Esplendido is my go-to when I can get to Cuba.
