Prof. Kim Wheatley
2021 Faculty Governance Award
Citation for Kim Wheatley

Across nearly four decades, Professor Wheatley has contributed substantially to governance and service at William & Mary. Within her department she has served twelve terms on the Undergraduate Program Committee (eight terms as chair), eleven terms on the elected Personnel Committee (three terms as chair), and four years as associate department chair; participated in two departmental assessments and four SACS accreditation processes; directed multiple Honors theses; advised both pre-major and major students; and participated regularly on any number of prize, teaching assessment, and lecture committees.

Her service on the Education Policy Committee (EPC), with two terms as chair, coincided with the labor-intensive year of guiding the College Curriculum from the Curriculum Review Steering Committee through the EPC and on to discussion and eventual adoption by the Faculty of Arts & Sciences. Active in the establishment of the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme, she has served on the program’s steering committee since 2010 and as advisor to those students since 2011, providing a steady hand and ensuring that these students thrive and succeed. She has also helped to assess applicants to the 1693 Scholars program and served on the A&S Lectures Committee (twice as chair), Plumeri Award Advisory Committee, and, most recently, Admissions Policy Advisory Committee.

For her many contributions, it is fitting that she now be recognized with the Arts & Sciences 2021 Faculty Governance Award.
