The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment. Each scholar receives up to $7,000 for eligible academic expenses. In addition, the scholarship provides access to the Udall Alumni Network (an association of environmental and tribal leaders and public servants sharing innovative ideas, professional advice, and job and internship opportunities) and five days in Tucson, Arizona at Scholar Orientation where scholars will extend their professional network, meet other scholars and alumni, and learn new skills.
Campus Nomination Process
Overview: To obtain an application for the Udall Scholarship, please request an application by completing a brief Tribe Form.
Application Format: After receiving an application request form from an eligible applicant, the campus Director of National Scholarships will register you in Udall’s online platform, allowing you to begin an official application.
Deadlines and Timeline:
- February 1: Deadline to Request an Application.
- Sunday, February 6 at 11:59 p.m.: Campus Application Deadline. You must complete and submit the application in Udall's online system by this date. Letters of recommendation have to be sent to the Charles Center inbox firstname.lastname@example.org by this deadline.
- Mid-February: Campus Interviews Take Place
- Late February: Campus finalists will have a short window to edit applications after the campus interviews before submitting their applications in time to meet Udall's national deadline.
Nominations: William & Mary can submit up to eight applications. Four candidates can be applicants whose are applying in the Native Healthcare or Tribal Public Policy categories, and four candidates can be applicants in the Environment category. **Applicants in the Native Healthcare and Tribal Public Policy categories must be Native American or Alaskan natives.
National Application Process
The national deadline is typically early March (not yet available for 2022). All students must meet the campus deadline (posted above) in order to be eligible for endorsement by the national deadline.
