Mission, Vision, and Goals

The Center for Geospatial Analysis (CGA) is a comprehensive geospatial resource for William & Mary students, faculty, staff, and local to global partnerships. The CGA fosters and inspires a diverse community of the next generation of geospatial problem solvers.  Our mission is to provide access to geospatial technologies and expertise through teaching, communication, collaboration, and engagement.

In the CGA, we envision a spatially enabled community, where mapping and spatial analysis are ubiquitous in teaching, learning, research, and campus support. By 2025, we will:

  • Expand geospatial research opportunities for W&M students through strategic partnerships
  • Increase available geospatial technologies with more diverse experiential learning opportunities
  • Support a diverse community of geo-enabled learners and users towards a spatially enabled campus

We work to fulfill our mission through four guiding principles:

Teach (courses, certificate program, workshops, trainings, guest lectures and consultations)

Communicate (events, speakers, email listserv, social media)

Collaborate (faculty and student research, outreach to academic departments and schools)

Engage (student internships, campus and community partnerships)

We strive to increase deeper understanding of geospatial technologies, including webmapping, StoryMaps, cartographic support, GIS, remote sensing, GPS, and drone technology
