With that, here are this week’s Top 5 Things to Know:

  1. Over the coming weeks, I will be working with the leaders of the four pillars of Vision 2026 and the Faculty Assembly to identify and appoint small faculty groups for each pillar to serve as advisors and liaisons with the W&M faculty. If you are interested in joining one of these groups, please reach out to your Faculty Assembly representative. Our goal is for the groups to have participation from across the university.
  2. Nominations for this year’s Values in Action Award are open through Nov. 4. Each semester, two employees who best exemplify our institutional values receive the award and a $2,500 cash prize. This is a great way to acknowledge the work of those who embody what it means to be a member of the William & Mary community.
  3. The Tack Faculty Lecture at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 27, will feature Professor of Classical Studies Georgia Irby presenting, “Sea Monsters! ‘O Brave new seas that have such monsters in them’.” Admission to the talk in the Sadler Center is free, but registration is required. For more information, please check out the related news article.
  4. W&M’s Whole of Government Center of Excellence will partner with NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Center of Excellence, EU Cyber Diplomacy Initiative - EU Cyber Direct and King's College London to host "Tomorrow's Silver Lining: Cyber Resilience, Cyber Defence, and New Technologies” on Friday, Oct. 28. This event is made possible with funding from the U.S. Mission to NATO. Portions will be livestreamed. For details, please visit the event webpage.
  5. This week’s shout-out goes to the research team working with members of the Highland Council of Descendant Advisors to identify recipes and African American food-related traditions. This work created a repository for the descendant community, which the executive director of the council also noted will “serve as a way for several families to preserve and share their own histories.
