With Veterans Day occurring this week, I want to recognize those who have served our nation and those who continue to serve as members of the military. William & Mary’s programs and expertise offer vital connections for veterans, including education and student support, and your contributions as faculty members are critical to student veterans’ success.

Here are this week’s Top 5 Things to Know:

  1. Applications for the inaugural Supporting Mid-level Academic Leaders program are now being accepted. With academic leadership as one of my key initiatives, and with appreciation for all the efforts of department chairs, program and area directors and faculty leaders, this program was built to support and develop mid-level academic leaders across campus. The six-session program includes topics such as peer leadership, preparing for hard conversations, faculty well-being and moving toward meaningful action. Participants will obtain ready-to-apply strategies and tools and develop an expanded network of support across campus. Current and aspiring leaders are encouraged to apply.
  2. Applications for the position of Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs & Development are open, as we seek a W&M faculty member who is interested in this academic leadership opportunity and ready to join the Provost’s Executive Team. I’m excited to work in collaboration with the new associate provost, as we focus on the wide range of matters pertaining to advancing the careers and contributions of faculty at W&M.
  3. Please consider submitting a nomination for this fall’s W&M’s Values in Action awards, “which recognize staff and faculty whose exceptional service exemplifies William & Mary's stated values: Belonging, Curiosity, Excellence, Flourishing, Integrity, Respect and Service.” Two awardees will each receive a $2,500 cash prize. The deadline to submit nominations, via this online form, is 5:00 p.m. Eastern on November 12.
  4. Today is the last day to nominate a student for the No Title Needed Initiative, which invites community members to nominate students who have “taken positive action and shown leadership without a formal title or position in a campus organization.”
  5. This week’s shout-out goes to all who are involved with the W&M Washington Center. Last week’s event for the 20th anniversary was inspiring, and I am appreciative of the Center’s leadership team, as well as the Washington Center Advisory Board, for all the work that has gone into strengthening W&M’s presence in D.C. over the years and for organizing a wonderful celebration. I also want to express my gratitude to the faculty involved in D.C., who have and will continue to play a fundamental role in creating dynamic programs that provide formative experiences for our students, blending theory and practice to address critical topics in our society.

Thank you all, as always, for your commitment to providing our students with a world-class education.
