Amber Hardison, Associate Professor of Marine Chemistry, has joined the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. She was previously an Assistant Professor of Marine Science at The University of Texas at Austin. Professor Hardison’s broad interests include studying carbon and nitrogen cycling in coastal settings to assess the current health of ecosystems and to predict the effects of future stressors (i.e., climate change, hurricanes) on these systems. She applies biogeochemical and organic geochemical techniques to study functional processes such as nitrogen cycling and transformations of organic matter in marine ecosystems. Her research in coastal rivers and bays spans subtropical, temperate and arctic settings.
