Background

Jody Allen, Assistant Professor of History, earned her doctorate in U.S. history at William & Mary in 2007. African American history is her area of specialization including Reconstruction, the Jim Crow Era, school desegregation, and women & gender. She is also the Director of the Lemon Project at William & Mary, through which she is exploring the history of the university’s role as slaveholder and proponent of Jim Crow. She previously was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of History.
