James A. Hixon J.D. '79, M.L.T. '80

James A. HixonMr. Hixon received his B.S. in finance from Virginia Tech in 1976, and his J.D. (1979) and M.L.T. (1980) from William & Mary's Law School. He currently serves as Executive Vice President for Law and Corporate Relations at Norfolk Southern Corporation. He has been with the company, in various capacities, since 1985 including vice president of taxation, senior vice president of employee relations, senior vice president of administration, senior vice president legal and government affairs and executive vice president finance and public affairs. Mr. Hixon also is responsible for the Norfolk Southern Foundation, serving as Vice President and Executive Officer. Prior to his time at Norfolk Southern, Mr. Hixon served as partner in the Vienna, Virginia law firm of Soutzos & Pierson, and is a member of the American Bar and the Virginia Bar Associations. His community involvement includes serving as a trustee on the National Railroad Retirement Investment Trust, a member of the Board of Directors for the Virginia Arts Festival (former chairman), a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Governor's Advisory Council on Revenue Estimates in Virginia; Mr. Hixon has been a member of the Old Dominion University Board of Visitors (2002-2010), serving as Rector 2004-2006. From 2008 to 2012, he was a member of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science Council. Mr. Hixon was appointed to the Board of Visitors in 2015 and has served as Vice Chair of the Committee on Financial Affairs. He currently serves as Chair for the Committee on Financial Affairs and is a member of the Committee on Administration, Buildings & Grounds, the Executive Committee, and the Investments subcommittee of the Committee on Financial Affairs.
