Sue H. Gerdelman '76

Sue H. Gerdelman Ms. Gerdelman received her B.A. in Elementary Education from William & Mary in 1976 and taught school for six years in Washington State.  She previously worked at the White House as an Executive Assistant to the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism and as Associate Director of the President’s National Economic Council. In 2001, she worked as a volunteer on the Presidential Inaugural Committee.  Ms. Gerdelman has long been active in support of her alma mater and in the community; she is a past chair of the William & Mary Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and is immediate past president of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Inc., the private affiliate.  Currently, she serves as the chair of the For the Bold capital campaign. In recognition of her outstanding professional accomplishments, leadership and dedication to the community, and commitment to her alma mater, Ms. Gerdelman was awarded the Alumni Medallion in 2011. Her husband, John Gerdelman, is a member of the Class of 1975.  Ms. Gerdelman was appointed to the Board of Visitors in 2013 to fill a vacancy, then reappointed in 2014 and in 2018.  Previously, she served as Vice Chair of the Richard Bland College Committee and as a member of the Presidential Search Committee for the 28th President of William & Mary (2017-2018).  Currently she serves as Secretary of the Board, Chair of the Committee on Institutional Advancement, is a member of the Executive Committee and the Committee on the Student Experience, and is a Board representative on the Inauguration, Reinvesture and Charter Day Ceremony Committee.
