Sue H. Gerdelman '76

Sue H. Gerdelman Ms. Gerdelman received her B.A. in Elementary Education from William & Mary in 1976 and taught school for six years in Washington State. She previously worked at the White House as an Executive Assistant to the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism and as Associate Director of the President’s National Economic Council. In 2001, she worked as a volunteer on the Presidential Inaugural Committee. Ms. Gerdelman has long been active in support of her alma mater and in the community; she is a past chair of the William & Mary Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and is past president of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Inc., the private affiliate. In recognition of her outstanding professional accomplishments, leadership and dedication to the community, and commitment to her alma mater, Ms. Gerdelman was awarded the Alumni Medallion in 2011. Her late husband, John Gerdelman, was a member of the Class of 1975, he was a member of the Board of Visitors from 2003 to 2011 and served as Vice Rector from 2009 to 2011; their two children, Emily and Mark, are both graduates of William & Mary. Previously, she served as Vice Chair of the Richard Bland College Committee, as a member of the Presidential Search Committee for the 28th President of William & Mary (2017-2018), and most recently as chair of the For the Bold capital campaign. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Design Review Board.
