Students may submit a partially completed application that can be re-accessed and edited by clicking on the "Allow Edits" button. When the application is complete, they must click on the "Submit for Review" button.

Upon final submission of the HHMI program application form, an email is sent to the designated faculty mentor asking him/her to provide a letter of reference.

Once the application is complete and the letter of reference has been submitted, the application forms and letters are reviewed and the HHMI Program Administrator designates the program awards. An email message is sent to each applicant notifying him/her of the award decision.

Students who are granted HHMI Awards are required to complete an online acceptance form to document whether they will accept or decline the award. When a student accepts their award, the terms of the award are re-stated, additional information is collected, and an email message is sent to the faculty mentor asking them to confirm that they agree to supervise the HHMI project by completing an online agreement form.
