Joella Adams '08

Joella Adams is a senior at the College of WIlliam and Mary, double-majoring in Government and Psychology. She is the event coordinator of Americans for Informed Democracy (AID) and a brother of the APO service fraternity. This past summer she worked outside Seoul, Korea as Head Teaching Fellow for the Far east University Intensive English Program where she taught 40 high-school and universtiy students full-time. She has also worked at the US Delegation to NATO in Brussels, Belgium in the Military Operations department. As a child growing up in an international family in Europe, she became interested in a career involving international relations. Joella's passion lies in international politics, food, and travel. She hopes to work in DC upon graduation for a year and then become a Foreign Service Officer for the US State Department. Joella is interning at The Brookings Institution in the Office of the Vice President & Director of Foreign Policy Studies. |

Ryan Ball '09
Ryan Ball is a junior from San Diego, California and he is an International Relations major. He has spent two summers abroad in Spain and China. On campus he is involved in HCO (Hispanic Cultural Organization), a brother in Kappa Sigma, has written for the DoG Street Journal, and served as an Orientation Aide . He has volunteered with a Williamsburg ESL program and worked at a pro bono law office back in California. He is interning at The Asia Foundation.

Lauren Bateman '09
Lauren Bateman is a junior and is double-majoring in History and Government. She is the President of the William and Mary Parliamentary Debate Team. She enjoys volunteering and serves as an ESL tutor for the Rita Welsh Center for Adult Literacy. During her free time, she loves to practice piano, read history books, and spend time with her wonderful friends. This past summer, she had the opportunity to intern in Washington D.C. and she is thrilled to return to the city. After college, she hopes to attend graduate school in pursuite of joint J.D./PhD in History. Lauren is interning at the Project on National Security Reform in the Case Studies Working Group.

Kathleen Berry '10
Kathleen Berry is a sophomore majoring in International Relations. On campus, she is a member of the Revoultionary War Reenacting Company, the International Relations Club, the Outdoors Club, and Campus Kitchens. In her free time, she enjoys trying new foods, sleeping under the stars, and traveling. During breaks she works as a substitute teacher in various elementary schools around Prince William County. After college, Kathleen is hoping for a career that will giver her a chance to travel the world. This semester she is interning at the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Robert Bradley '10
Robert Bradley is a sophomore pursuing a Government major with a possible Psychology minor. He is invovled in the College's Student Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Columbus, and Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. In his spare time he enjoys reading, watching the news, volunteering, and debating. After college he plans to work in D.C., hopefully on Capital Hill. This semester, Robert will be interning for the Senate Committee on Homeland Security on the majority staff.

Lauren Doll '09
Lauren Doll is a junior pursuing a major in International Relations and a minor in German Studies. On campus, she is a member of Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, Gammi Phi Beta Sorority, International Relations Club, and is the founder and leader of BreakThrough South Africa, a two week summer service trip. Off campus, she volunteers at the Heritage Humane Society and works at Toano Middle School with 6th and 8th grade students as an AVID Academic coach. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, volunteering, and playing tennis. Lauren is interning at the US Department of Stat in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor.

Charles Doss '09
Charlie Doss is a junior majoing in International Relations. As a Sharpe Scholar freshman year, Charlie examined the efficiency of charity and nonprofit work. Through work with the Hunger Awareness Taskforce and the Community Scholars Program he has volunteered with various organizations and charities to distribute food to disadvantaged neighborhoods. Building on these efforts, Charlie has researched these organizations to determine which portions of the food in secure populations were being underserved and then worked with local government and student groups to address the problem. He looks forward to seeing the application of IR theory in the real world environment that only DC can provide. Charlie is interning at The International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Alexander Ely '09
Alex Ely is currently a junior Government major and is also pursuing a minor in French. He has been involved with The Flat Hat for the past three years, and currently writes the Staff Editorials twice a week, as well as covering other news stories. The past summer, he spent six weeks in London studying Journalism and Politics. He hopes to intern at a media outlet or think tank involved in Foreign Policy and National Security reporting and analyzing. He looks forward to learning the layout of the nation's capital and looking for opportunities for networking and future opportunities in several difference areas. This semester he is interning at The Dershowitz Group.

Berit Fitzsimmons '10
Berit Fitzsimmons is a sophomore planning on majoring in Government and Economics, having also studies French for seven years. On campus, she is involved foremost in Campus Kitchens at William & Mary, an organization that collects surplus food from local venues and makes meals for the hungry in the Williamsburg area. As special events and fundraising co-chair, Berit has recently been busy working on supplementing the start-up organization's limited budget. Berit spends her free time practicing the cello, swimming, keeping up with politics and the news, and, when she's home in Northern Virginia, playing with her Labradoodle puppy. She is interning at the Project on National on Security Reform on the Research & Analysis Team.

Breton Harned '09
Breton Harned is a junior majoring in Government and Art. She is from Reston, VA and loves the Redskins. She has spent a lot of time in DC already as a Senate page and various other internships. In her free time she likes to play lacrosse and eat food. This semester, Breton is interning at the World Security Institute in the Office of the Vice President for Development.

Andrew Howell '09
Andrew Howell is originally from South Hill, Virginia and is a junior at William and Mary. He is a Government major and also hopes to minor in Hispanic Studies. Drew is a member of Alpha Phi Omega on campus, volunteers at the Heritage Humane Society, and is working this semester as an academic coach with the AVID Program through the Williamsburg-James City County Public School System. In his spare time, which seems to be a rarity these days, he enjoys theatre, political debates, writing, and traveling, particularly to foreign countries. In the future he hopes to hold a job that pertains to government and foreign affairs. Drew is interning in the Majority Office of the House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform.

Alexandra Kirchner '09
Allie Kirchner is a junior majoing in International Relations and minoring in Mathematics. She graduated from high school in Austin, Texas and moved to a small town in Virginia before starting college. She is a member of the William and Mary Equestrian team and works at the team stable. She also trains with her own horse under an American Olympic champion who last won a silver medel in eventing. Besides horses, Allie has a passion for learning languages and has studied Spanish for six years and Arabic for three year. She was recently nominated for Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Her future goals include obtaining a Ph.D. and then pursuing her interest in international diplomacy and conflict resolution by working as Secretary of State or a United Nations representative. Allie is interning at The American Foreign Policy Council.

Eva Malliarakis '08
Eva Malliarakis is a senior majoring in Government and Middle Eastern Studies. She is an active member of the Middle Eastern Cultural Association as well as a member of the Middle Eastern Ensemble. Her academic interests include the Middle East, national security, terrorism, and intelligence. Eva also enjoys learning about different cultures and hopes to continue her studies in Arabic, French, and Greek. This past summer she participated in an international program located in Greece with students from all over the Middle Eastern, Balkan, and Mediterranean region. She hopes to continue learning more about this region and incorporate it into her future career in politics and security. Eva is interning at the Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Security Administration.

Charlotte Miller '09
Charlotte Miller is a junior at William and Mary. This is her first semester in Williamsburg, as she just transferred from Temple University Honors Program in Philadelphia. She is a double major in Middle Eastern Studies and Psychology, and plans on becoming fluent in Arabic by studying at Middlebury College this summer. She is employed at Swem Library and is involved in the LEAP Leadership program. She is also the current treasurer of the Tribe College Outreach Program. She enjoys diversity, reading, exercise, theatre, and cooking. She would like to attend law school upon graduation from William and Mary, and is interested in a focus of either Intellectual Property or Environmental Law. This semester, Charlotte is interning at the Center for American Progress on the Middle East Progress Project.

Jeanne Neal '08
Jeanne Neal is a junior pursuing an International Relations major and Middle Eastern Studies minor. Jeanne is a transfer student from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she played varsity soccer. At William and Mary she is involved in a variety of programs including the club soccer team, local tutoring, and the International Relations Club. In her spare time, she loves to exercise, travel, and read. After graduaion, she intends to pursue a career in the national intelligence field. Jeanne is interning in the Minority Office of the House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform.

Randy Pilkerton '08
Randy Pilkerton is a senior who will be graduating in 2008 with a major in government and a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. In Williamsburg, Randy works at the front desk of the Student Recreation Center and is active in many clubs on campus including, but not limited to, Project Phoneix, Hall Council, and the Rugby Club. He has a strong interest in government, especially issues dealing with national security, and looks forward to the W&M in Washington program. Over the past three summers he has interned for the Navy as a financial intern where he worked with financial records and scheduling service on all navy air-capably ships. He is a transfer student from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Randy is interning at the Project on National on Security Reform.

Ainab Rahman '08
Ainab Rahman is a current junior pursuing an International Relations major and a Women's Studies' minor. At the Collge, she has been involved in the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, as well as, Health Outreach Peer Educators, the Muslim Student's Association and the Yoga Club. When she's not in Williamsburg, she enjoys traipsing aroudn the world, discovering different parts of the globe, as well as going back to her home country of Bangladesh so she can watch monsoon rains and play her sitar. Ainab is interning at the Women's Foreign Policy Group.

Rebecca Smith '08
Rebecca Smith is a junior at the College of William and Mary, majoring in Government and International Relations and intends to graduate with her class in the Spring of 2009. She is committed to learning through experiencing whether it be with various service organizations, classes, or jobs. She has an avid interest in international affairs which was further developed during a semester abroad program in London. After graduation, Rebecca would like to further her interest in international affairs by working for the Peace Corps and eventually attending law school with an emphasisin international law. She is interning at The Center for Immigration Studies.
