Live, Learn and Work in DC!

The College of William and Mary has brought its commitment to academic excellence and dedication to public service to Washington, DC.

The W&M in Washington Program is an opportunity for students who want to experience “working” Washington in a structured and supervised way, tapping the dynamic institutions of the Washington metropolitan area to provide unparalleled experiential learning opportunities.

Our Philosophy

• To offer a challenging, interactive academic program appropriate for William and Mary undergraduates.
• To encourage practical learning in “real life” settings.
• To provide a well-managed internship experience.
• To let students sample the social and cultural diversity of our nation’s capital.
• To provide students with an affordable option for living and studying in Washington.

Your Benefits

• With an all-access pass to D.C. for the semester, get a close-up view of Washington’s dynamic governmental, advocacy, research, and cultural organizations.
• Enjoy Washington's rich cultural and social opportunities.
• Come face-to-face with high profile guest speakers from all over Washington.
• Broaden your career possibilities through networking events with key alumni in your area of interest.
• Build your résumé by participating in a professional internship

The Program

• An academically rigorous curriculum built around a semester-by-semester topic, with internships matched to that topic.
• Students work up to 35 hours a week, Monday through Thursday, while attending two evening classes and one Friday afternoon class.
• Students receive 12 credits from two four-credit courses and one four-credit internship.
• A full time Program Director oversees the internship and works with the student’s supervisor to complete an evaluation at the semester’s end.

The W&M in Washington Program is designed to promote your future success -- and leadership --in the public, private and nonprofit sectors of Washington....and the world.

Imagine yourself in D.C.!
