Conference Presentations

On November 14, Hopewell's archaeology program was presented to a large academic audience at the Southeastern Archaeological Conference, held this year in Charlotte, North Carolina. A five foot wide poster titled "Community Based Archaeology: Exploring the Heritage of Hopewell, Virginia" held up the city's archaeology program as a model for other medium-sized communities. Besides summarizing the results of research, the poster emphasized the importance of including citizens in the archaeological process—along with city government, academic researchers, the National Park Service, and the Historic Hopewell Foundation. Archaeologists from states across the Southeastern U.S. were impressed with proactive and innovative approaches to archaeology in Hopewell. Click here to download pdf of poster (3.8 MB).
