Virginia Shakespeare Festival
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer actors and technicians who are able to accommodate the Festival's schedule of rehearsals and performances from May 26 through August 2 are welcome to join the company.

Auditions for actors and interviews for technicians will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 from Noon to 6 pm in the Studio Theatre of Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall. Please call 757-221-2683 to make an appointment time for an audition or an interview.

Volunteer Position Descriptions
Actors Please bring a photograph and resume, and be well prepared to present a short Shakespeare monologue. Roles in our plays are cast by mid-March. However, be aware that the first production of the season will be rigorously rehearsed every day except Mondays, 2-10 pm starting May 26, and performances are in the evenings (plus 1 Saturday and 2 Sunday matinees) from June 24 to July 5. The second production will begin afternoon rehearsals on June 9, working 2-6 pm every day but Monday, opening July 10, closing July 19.
Technicians (costumes, lighting, scenic construction and painting, properties, sound operation) please bring a resume to your interview with our backstage staff on Saturday, January 31 from 3:30 – 6 pm, who will explain our needs, plans, schedule, and agenda of work. Generally, the company works two shifts: 10 am – 1 pm and 2-6 pm. A volunteer may elect one (or more) shifts, as available. Often, technicians who become active in preparing the shows are invited to fill vital positions in performances.
Other Volunteers The Festival always needs numerous "front of house" volunteers to serve as ushers, assist with box office and concession sales, and help with promotional tasks. Please contact our House Manager Rita Davis at 757-221-2683 in early June.
We appreciate the help of all volunteers!
