It is estimated that 70 percent of William and Mary students participate in service
activities contributing over 150,000 volunteer hours each year. Students will find
opportunities for service in one-time activities with campus organizations, on-going
volunteerism with local agencies, or as a component of a class which helps to provide
an experiential understanding to issues like citizenship, justice, and democracy.
The Office of Student Volunteer Services acts as a resource for academic
departments and student organizations by assisting
with curriculum integration of service-learning and the development of new service
projects. OSVS also coordinates on-going programs like the College Partnership for
Kids tutoring program, Service Leaders Corps, READ Program and the Project Phoenix
mentoring program as well as dozens of one-time service events. In addition, OSVS
serves as a clearinghouse of campus, local, national and international volunteer
opportunities and sponsors annual resource fairs, training, reflection groups and
recognition programs.
