Events with Alcohol
A Party Form must be filled out for ALL social events whether or not alcohol will be present. Party forms may be obtained from Student Activities or your Area Director.
ANY EVENT WHERE ALCOHOL IS SERVED AND MONEY IS EXCHANGED MUST ALSO HAVE A LICENSE FROM THE ALCOHOL BEVERAGE CONTROL COMMISSION (ABC). Check with Office Manager for details when licenses are required at events.
Guidelines:
- Party forms may be obtained from the Office of Student Activities.
- There is a new Party form in use. For a sample see the Office Manager in the Office of Student Activities.
- Party forms for weekend events must be submitted to the Office Manager one week prior to the event. Parties in the Residence Halls must have prior approval of the Area Director.
- Party Forms and Guest Lists must be picked up in the Office of Student Activities by Friday at noon.
- The application for a Banquet License must be submitted to the Student Activities Office at least fourteen days (14) prior to the event. A Banquet License is issued for a single event, at a specific location on a particular day only, and cost $30.00 for beer, and $35.00 for mixed beverages. In addition, there is a $15.00 application fee.
Checklist:
- Register Party
- Post Party Form and use Guest List
- Manage the door tightly
- Check IDs and use distinctive marking to designate those of age
- Have clearly defined drinking and non-drinking areas
- Have good bar managers who remain sober
- Don't serve intoxicated persons
- Have sober party monitors
- Don't let anyone leave with alcohol
- Have an escort and designated driver program in place
- Have substantial non-alcoholic beverages and food available
- Have a plan for fire alarms or other emergencies
- Stop serving alcohol at least 2 hour before party ends
Remember:
- All party managers and bar tenders/servers must have completed the TIPS training sessions offered each semester.
- Your organization/group will be held responsible for any damage caused during your event.
- Selling alcohol, taking donations, and charging admission constitute the requirement of having an Alcohol Beverage Control license.
- You are responsible for insuring the sensible use of alcohol at your party. If you sell or serve alcohol to an intoxicated person, YOU MAY BE HELD LIABLE.
- You and your group risk disciplinary and possible criminal action for serving individuals under the age of 21.
