Renée Cork Receives National Recognition
Renée Cork, Senior Assoicate Athletic Trainer, was named the College and University Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year for 2007. She will travel to the National Athletic Trainers' Association Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California to receive her award. This is the second consecutive year that a member of the staff has received this national recognition--Steve was named the Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2006. Congratulations Renée!

Congratulations to Camille Fiske who was awarded the 2003-2004 Edward M. Jewusiak Memorial Scholarship. Camille's name joins the list of past winners on a placque in William and Mary Hall. Camille will graduate in May. She took and passed two of the three parts of the NATABOC exam in April--she is scheduled to take the final part in the summer and we expect her to do well again. "Whitey" Gwynne Undergraduate Intern Scholarship from the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association, which includes a $1,500 award. Congratulations also go to senior athletic training student Laura Nelson, who won the second place grant of the A.C. "Whitey" Gwynne Undergraduate Intern Scholarship, which includes a $1,000 award. She will be the first and only woman to serve on the board.Posted August 13, 2002
The Advisory Board on Athletic Training assists the Board of Medicine in formulating the requirements for the certification and standards of professional conduct of athletic trainers in Virginia. The Board is comprised of five individuals, including only one representative from a college or university setting. The group defines the practice of athletic training throughout the state. "Renée's experience and insights will be invaluable to the Board," praised William and Mary's Director of Sports Medicine Steve Cole." She has the unique ability to see the big picture while understanding the small things that are necessary to achieve long-range goals."
"We take great pride in Renée's selection," commented Athletics Director Terry Driscoll." She epitomizes the commitment of the William and Mary sports medicine department in its ongoing effort to be a leader in student-athlete health and welfare."
Cork is in her 11th year as the associate athletic trainer at the College. Along with her appointment to the Advisory Board, Cork has also recently received the Sport Safety Training Award from the Red Cross. Dr. George Oliver announced his retirement as Tribe Team Physician and was honored by the Athletic Department for his service to the College since 1958. A recognition dinner was held for Dr. Oliver on April 12, 2002 at the Ramada Inn in Williamsburg.
