CLUB INFORMATION
Club Presiden: Greg Spear |
The College of William And Mary dropped wrestling from its Varsity Athletic Program more than ten years ago as a result of Title IX. In 2003 freshmen Matt Recsetar and Evan Molinelli tried to bring wrestling back to William And Mary. The Wrestling Club is open to all W&M students, faculty and staff as well as to other members of the Williamsburg community. The club's purpose is to promote wrestling education, enthusiasm, and training for all of its members. In addition, the club is to promote and coordinate intercollegiate competition for all of its student members.
The William & Mary Wrestling Club joined the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA)during the fall semester of 2003. The NCWA is a nation-wide organization that promotes wrestling for college students on the club level. We are a part of the Mid-Atlantic Conference with schools such as VCU, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Richmond, Maryland/Baltimore, Apprentice School, Tidewater CC, Tennessee Temple, Southern Virginia, Radford, Maryville, Longwood, Furman, Clemson University, Catawba, and Belmont Abbey. We now ask that our members give about $20 to contribute towards NCWA dues and startup fees. Startup fees include hiring a ref, paying tournament fees etc. Our budget with RecSports works on a reimbursement basis, so we need startup capital to make payments and get reimbursed later. Last year, especially in the spring of 2005, we saw a stronger practice turnout and a reliable tournament turnout. We hope to see similar growth in this 2005/2006 year. |
