William & Mary Rowing ClubRace Results 2007-2008Dad Vail Regatta Friday and Saturday, May 9th-10th: A fantastic end to the season and a beautiful Saturday in Philadelphia. On Friday, the Men's Novice 8+ placed fifth in their heat, not qualifying for the Semi-finals but beating George Mason's time, as well as that of several other crews raced earlier in the season the Varsity Women's 8+ came in fourth in their heat, missing the qualification for Semi-finals by less than a second both Men's 2- and Lightweight 4+ made it into Semi-finals on Saturday, to take advantage of the beautiful racing conditions. The 2- placed third in their semi-final, just barely beat my a strong pair from Bucknell. The 4+ placed fourth in their event. Congratulations to all rowers as especially to the seniors for a terrific rowing season!Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Crew Championships Sunday, May 4th: Coming in to the end of the season in between the two weeks of finals at the College, Tribe rowing had an impressive day of racing. The Men’s pair took home a medal, placing first in their event. The Novice Men’s 8+ came in 5th place, finishing behind George Mason. The Men’s Heavyweight 4+ finished in 5th place in the Grand final, and the Men’s Lightweight 4+ placed 2nd in their grand final, behind Virginia Tech. The Women’s Varsity 8+ came in 5th place in their event. The Women’s Novice 8+ finished in sixth place. The Women’s 4+ finished 4th in their heat, and placed 3rd in the Petite final. CAA Championships Saturday, April 19th: All boats had a great showing in our annual conference race, taking fifth in the points trophy. Both men's varsity and novice 8's came in fourth in their races, and the women's varsity four coming in fourth with a strong race. The novice women's 8 had an impressive fifth place finish. Occoquan Sprints Saturday, March 30th: Women's varsity eight took an impressive first in their heat and earned a fourth place finish in the Grand Final, while the WV4+ came in fourth in their race, and the novice women's 8+ finished fourth in their heat and first in the Petite Final. The men's novice 8+ came in fourth in their race, with the varsity 8+ finishing fifth in their heat and third in the Petite Final. The men's 2- finished first in their race with an impressive margin - a great day of racing! Virginia Tech Duel Saturday, March 15th: The first race of the spring season brought wonderful racing conditions in Blacksburg, VA. Despite being on the water for one week, and having many new novice rowers, all boats had impressive races. Both men's and women's novice 8+'s finished second to the Tech boats, and the WL4+ and MV4+ both finished second in their races.While Tech captured the trophy, the last two races, the ML8+ and the WV8+, were both victories for the team. Head of the Occoquan Saturday and Sunday, November 3-4th: The team's final head race of the season took place back on the Occoquan under clear blue skies! All boats showed well with the Varsity Men's 8+ taking 2nd! The Varsity Women's 8+ finished 5th out of 25 and both Novice 8+'s took 7th. The Novice Men had 17 other boats in their race while the Novice Women had 20 other boats. The Varsity Women's 4+ finished 14th out of 21. All together a great race day for the Sweep team. The Sculling team also had a great showing on Sunday with the Men's Lightweight 2x and the Women's Lightweight 2x both taking 2nd out of 3. Full results of the regatta can be seen here. Head of the Schuylkill Saturday, October 27th: Due to inclement weather all races were cancelled! However the team did have a nice trip to Philadelphia! Head of the Charles Saturday and Sunday, October 20-21st: Congratulations to all of the boats that raced in the Charles! The team was well represented! The Women's Varsity 4+ in event 18 finished under a minute behind the first place boat in 11th place. The Varsity Men's 4+ finished 22nd in event 17 less than a minute and a half from the first place boat. The Lightweight Men's 4+ finished in 14th place, a minute and a half behind the first place boat, in event 45. Full results can be seen here. Again Congratulations to the team! Occoquan Chase Sunday, October 14th: This was the first race for this year's Novice team and what a race it was! The Novice Women's 8+ took first and walked home with shirts instead of medals and the Novice Men's 8+ took 8th out of 10. The Varsity Women's 8+ took 13th out of 20 while the Varsity Women's 4+ took 4th out of 25. The Varsity Men also had a good showing with the Lightweight 4+ taking 1st, the Heavyweight 4+ taking 10th out of 19 and the Lightweight 2x taking 1st. Full results can be seen here. Occoquan Challenge Sunday, October 7th: The varsity team travelled to the Occoquan for our first head race of the season. Despite a U-turn in the middle of the course all the boats showed well. Both the Men's and Women's Varsity 8+s took 2nd in their races. The Women's Varisty 4+ finished 3rd in their race and both the Men's and Women's Lightweight 2xs finished the race in 1st place in uncontested heats. This was a fantastic start to our fall season!
