What is Friends of Williamsburg Rowing (FWR)? Friends of Williamsburg Rowing (FWR) is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization (501(c)3 corporation) irrevocably dedicated to and operated for charitable purposes. FWR exists in order to:
~ Serve as the William and Mary Rowing Club’s (WMRC) Alumni Organization; working closely with the WMRC board to keep alumni informed, interested in, and involved with the team •~ Collect, hold, and to help fundraise money for the future boathouse in Williamsburg •
~ Assist the development of a strong rowing program in the Williamsburg area, primarily at the College of William and Mary •
~ Develop, promote, and produce educational and financial support for rowing in the Williamsburg area, primarily at the College of William and Mary •
~Solicit and provide funds, services, or contributions in-kind for all the above-mentioned purposes
FWR depends on your membership for success in supporting the team. William and Mary Rowing depends on your continued interest in the team. All of the help that you have given over the years as alumni, parents, and community members is very much appreciated. Your support allows the team to continuously improve and makes the experience that much more rewarding for current athletes. FWR wants to keep you updated on what is happening with the team: how their racing season is going, challenges they are facing, and how you can help. Please be sure we have your current contact information so that we can send you Surge!!, either by email or regular mail. FWR also helps alumni maintain contact with friends and classmates they rowed with. W&M Alumni: We want to know where you are and what you are doing. Each year we publish an alumni notes page in Surge!! and we would love to include your updates.
Goals for 2006 ØIncrease membership in the organization
FWR aims to encourage alumni, parents, and community members to become members of FWR and to renew their membership each year.
ØLaunch the campaign to raise money for a boathouse in Williamsburg
Friends of Williamsburg Rowing has undertaken as our task over the next few years to begin raising money for a boathouse to be used by the entire rowing community in Williamsburg (WBC and WMRC included). This will be a big step towards giving the rowing community a public presence in the area and a sense of establishment.
Surge - the FWR Newsletter
FWR compiles and publishes Surge!! a bi-yearly newsletter with updates on WMRC, the Williamsburg Boat Club (WBC), and FWR. This newsletter is distributed to WMRC alumni, parents of WMRC rowers, Williamsburg community members, and FWR members. The newsletter includes the WMRC racing schedule, fundraising activities, alumni notes, season recap, and more. Links to old issues will be up on this page soon!
