Fundraising Ideas
Letter writing is the fastest and easiest way to raise funds. Use the 50 Letters Fast form to help you easily think of addresses for family and friends. If you turn the completed 50 Letters Fast form in, you will be entered in a drawing for a free Video iPod!
Need an idea? Try one of these!
- Buy a pizza and sell slices outside the library; this works really well during midterms and exams!
- Smore Sale: using a toaster over, toast marshmallows to use in smores. The toaster oven can be "hidden" behind construction paper flames. Smores can be sold for $1 and offer a remind of childhood fun.
- Offer massages for $5 in the hall lounge; again, this is a great idea during exams time.
- Host a car wash
- Host a bake sale
- Host a Fake Election: dollars count as votes and the winner gets their picture taken with their "cabinet" and the distinction of a "title." For example, the winner could be named the Prime Minister of Botetourt Hall, for the Time Between 12:29 and 12:30 AM on Sunday, February 10, 2007. Use your creativity to come up with some outlandish titles!
- Host a board game tournament; a Scrabble tournament usually works well because the game requires some skill but doesn't last for 5 hours a round.
- The Sticky Fly: Convince one popular student/faculty member to participate (they must be willing to be taped to a wall!). On the appointed day, find a spot where students and faculty pass by regularly. Set a chair up against a wall so that the side of the chair (NOT the back or front, otherwise it won't work right) is firmly against the wall. Place a couple of gym mats or cushions in front of the chair as a precaution. Have the person stand up on the chair with his/her back against the wall. For fifty cents per yard of duct tape, students and faculty can tape the teacher to the wall. When the teacher is firmly taped to the wall, stop selling tape. Announce that you will now remove the chair to see just how long the "fly" can stick to the wall. Have plenty of people around to lending a helping hand (or catch!).
- Host a grown up spelling bee. Has spellcheck ruined our spelling skills? Find out!
- Have a Raffle; solicit a donation from a local business and sell raffle tickets for $1 each.
- Sell concessions at a club sporting event or tournament
- Have a hall / building wide yardsale
- Play gas attendent; ask a gas station to allow you to pump gas for their customers for about a two hour block. Ask the patrons to give an unspecified donation in return for pumping their gas and washing the windshield.
- Ask a restuarant to donate a portion of their proceeds for the evening to your team; Uno's and Cheeburger Cheeburger have worked in the past, but there are other restuarants out there waiting to be asked!
- Offer singing Christmas cards, or Valentines, or Birthday Cards, or...
- Sell a "Kiss Goodbye": At the end of the semester, attach a small slip of paper to a Hershey's Kiss and then deliver them, with a personalized, note for a determined price.
