The Monitor

So you want to be a published author?  Here's how it works...

The Monitor publishes two issues a year.  We publish articles written by students at William and Mary and other institutions around the US and the world.  We are looking for papers from a broad range of academic disciplines including, but not limited to: religion, history, sociology, anthropology, government, linguistics, international studies, international relations, and modern languages that contribute to an understanding of the world or its peoples.

The submission process:

Papers should be between 1500 and 5000 words. Please include the paper wordcount with your submission.

Submissions should be sent to   as a Microsoft Word document.  In the subject line please write "SUBMISSION-[Your Name]."

Once we receive your paper, it will be be anonymously reviewed by one or more members of our staff using our review guidelines.  We use a double-blind review process to ensure fairness in our review process.  Reviewers are not told the authors of submissions and authors are not told who their reviewers are.

After a few weeks of review, you will receive all the reviewer comments for your article.  If you are selected for publication, you will most likely be asked to make some revisions and corrections before publication.

Good luck and thank you for your submission!  Please be sure your paper meets our specifications listed above.
