The College of William and Mary International Relations Club

Welcome to the International Relations Club!

Whether you are a returning member, a new member, or just interested in what we are all about, welcome to the website.  My name is Tyler and I will be the President of the IR Club for the 2008-2009 school year.  For those of you who are new to us, below is a rough idea of what we do as the IR Club.  IR Club sounds very vague and I hope this will help clear things up.  First off, if you have any questions in particular about what we do, or don’t feel like reading the letter and want to email me directly feel free to at tmhosf@wm.edu.

The College of William and Mary has one of the finest programs in International Relations in the country.  When I say program I do not confine that to just the academic program, which many of our members are involved in.  Indeed if you have any questions about the program, you would be able to find answers to questions by talking with us.  Things like what classes are good, which professors to take for what, course sequence, etc. are all things that most of our members would have an opinion on.  That goes for all programs that our members are involved in ranging from IR and the humanities to business to science.  We also coordinate on campus events that promote understanding of International Relations and how they affect our world.  These include bringing speakers to campus, panel discussions, photo galleries, service initiatives, and co-hosting events with other on campus organizations.  We of course also hold our fair share of social events that are well attended by all of our members.  You have to experience one to know how fun they are.

We are also the sponsor of the Model United Nations (MUN) team for the College and we have seen incredible success over recent years.  Whether you are a seasoned delegate or don’t know what a Point of Order is, if you want to participate in MUN we welcome everyone to join us.  Delegates from all background including those with no experience have seen success at the conferences we attend.  This year that will include conferences in Atlanta, Boston, Charlottesville, Montreal, New Haven, and Washington DC.  The culminating event for those interested in MUN is WorldMUN which will be held in The Hague in the Netherlands this year.  We also host two conferences on our campus: WMHSMUN in the fall for high-schoolers; and WMIDMUN in the spring for middle-schoolers.  These are well attended and very respected conferences under the direction of two of the finest Secretaries General.  These are always incredibly fun weekends for the entire club and a high point to our semester.

This year an IR Club Service Committee was created with the goal of coordinating fundraising projects throughout the year and donating to one charity.  With one year in the books this upcoming one promises to see tremendous success as we work to support the chosen charity, Doctors Without Borders.  The Service Committee works to organize these events and did a phenomenal job last year providing us with numerous entertaining and well attended events.

This is a (maybe not so) brief overview of what we do as the IR Club here at the College of William and Mary.  Whether you are an incoming freshman or an upperclassman that will be joining us new this year please do not hesitate to get involved.  Spots on both Secretariats and the Service Committee are reserved for new members so that everyone has a chance to be involved.  Again if you have any questions feel free to email me over the summer and throughout the school year.

Go Tribe!
