What Is Speed Dating?

Speed dating is a "round robin" dating system whose purpose is to encourage people to meet a large number of new people by going on a series of short "dates."

How It Works

Participants will be assigned numbers when they sign in the night of the event and be given a dating card. While waiting for the event to start, participants are welcome to buy drinks at the bar. The women will sit at the table with their assigned number and the men will be told at which table they will start. The men will rotate to meet the women over a series of short "dates" lasting from 5 to 10 minutes. At the end of each interval, there is a signal for the men to move on to the next date. Before starting the next date, participants mark on their dating card if they would like to see their current date again or not. At the end of the event participants submit their dating cards. If two people indicate on their cards that they would like to see each other again, contact information is forwarded to both parties so you can arrange a second date! Contact information cannot be traded during the dates in order to reduce pressure.

Why Try Speed Dating?

There are numerous advantages to speed dating.
  • Dating is a numbers game; the more people you meet, the more likely you are to be successful. Speed dating allows singles to meet a large number of new people in one easy event.
  • The structured interaction helps shy people to overcome their inhibitions.
  • The time limit ensures that no one is stuck talking to someone longer than they wish.
  • The matching process occurs after the event, ensuring people do not have to face rejection in person. This helps avoid awkward situations and uneasy interactions between participants during the event.
  • Participants are almost always guaranteed that the people they meet are single. This is generally more difficult to discern when one goes to a bar or a club.
  • Speed dating is cheap. Who ever heard of going on numerous dates for only $10?
