Fraternity Recruitment
CFA Recruitment
No matter what you are looking for, there is a Fraternity
at William and Mary for YOU! Joining a Fraternity is Fun, Simple, and Easy!
When do I Join?
There are 2 opportunities for you to pledge (join) a fraternity during the year: Fall semester or Spring semester . The choice is entirely yours as to which time you participate.
How does the Recruitment Process Work?
- Attend the 3-4 open houses offered during the semester.
Attendance at open houses is optional but recommended. Every chapter holds
an open house at their fraternity house or designated space on campus. Stop
by, meet the brothers, and decide which chapter is right for you. Each chapter
may also sponsor other recruitment events outside these open houses.
- Receive a bid. From the first day to offer bids (refer
to CFA Recruitment Schedule), fraternities
may extend bids until either the CFA Designated Bid Day or (if the chapter
chooses) until the end of teh CFA Recruitment Signing Period. If offered a
bid, you are under no obligation to make any formal commitment at that time.
You will have three options:
The FIRST option is to decline: This means that you definitely don't want to join.
The SECOND option is to defer: This means that you want more time to decide.
The THIRD option is to accept: This means that you definitely want to join.
- Make a Formal Commitment. The CFA Designated Bid Day is
the traditional bid day which marks the first day that new members may formally
sign their membership bids and begin to pledge their new organization. Potential
members may defer making a formal commitment regarding an offered bid until
the point at which the chapter is no longer accepting new members (this will
occur between the designated CFA Bid Day and the end of the CFA Recruitment
Signing Period). Once you accept your bid formally, you become an associate
member or pledge of that Fraternity. The pledge period lasts for 6-10 weeks
after which you become an initiated brother.
Are there any requirements for joining a fraternity?
Undergraduate men who wish to join a fraternity must have a minimum 2.0 W&M GPA in order to be eligible to pledge a fraternity. Entering students (in their first semester) with no W&M GPA will be assumed to fulfill this minimum requirement. A prospective member may petition to pledge a fraternity if he does not meet this minimum requirement. If you have questions about the petitioning process, please contact the CFA Recruitment Chairman.
Anything else I need to know?
Look for flyers and postings about Fraternity Recruitment events and dates.
Attend the Meet-the-Greek event in the fall. It's a great way to meet fraternity members and learn about the Fraternity Community! (optional)
Have fun, and be Yourself!
