Training Rides

The William and Mary Cycling team trains year-round. Since the team participates in both mountain biking (Fall) and road racing (Spring), there is a need to train constantly. Training rides are scheduled by individuals as there is no mandatory training schedule for the club. The rides are organized through the club's listserv through the William and Mary e-mail client. In the e-mails, details such as the day, time, mileage and pace of the ride are included. Routeslip.com is a popular website listing various routes around the Williamsburg, VA area and many of these routes are used by club members for training and social rides.

Winter Training Camp

It has been the tradition for the club to hold an optional week-long winter training camp for the past few years during William and Mary's winter break. The camp is usually held in early January to coincide with the last week (or close to it) of break. This past winter, the camp was held in Harrisonburg, Virginia, home to the former club president Mark Cohee. About ten members of the cycling team made the trip to the Shenandoah Valley to experience real mountain climbs such as Reddish Knob and Massanutten that the Williamsburg are so sorely lacks. Mr. and Mrs. Cohee graciously allowed a dozen or so spandex-clad cyclers to invade their house and wolf down copious amounts of food. Additional photos of the camp can be seen on the photos page of this website.
