An Evening with Lieutenant General Scowcroft
Moderated by Assistant Professor Amy Oakes
On Tuesday, April 1, 2008, Assistant
Professor Amy Oakes, the Program students, W&M Provost Geoffrey Feiss, a
few select alums, and W&M Board of Visitors Member Jeff Tramell '73 gathered
for a private discussion and reception with Former National Security Advisor,
Lieutenant General Scowcroft. The
evening was sponsored by the Wendy and Emery Reves Center for International
Studies and arranged by W&M alums Sue '64 and Ray Warner '63.
Provost Geoffrey Feiss welcomed students and guests. Then Assistant Professor Amy Oakes introduced
Lieutenant General Scowcroft, who discussed the remarkable shift in the global
power structure following the fall of the Soviet Union, explaining the
challenges facing the United States today and the uncertainty and debate over
the best course for a new foreign policy. He took student questions after his
opening remarks, touching on a wide variety of national security challenges
facing the nation.
